    Sunday 24th. October 2017

The Rainer Brandemeir sponsored shoot was a challenging and entertaining course of eight stands. The course was well designed by seasoned & new committee and club members. 37 shooters fought it out for the win in the beautiful sunshine, with just a light breeze to tame the heat.

Some great scores were shown in this handicap event, especially in C Grade...

      Sunday 24th. Setpember 2017

The great Coomagui cup! Sponsored by Drako’s Bros Construction and 777 Supermarket Bermagui. It was an all terrain course but with some excellent targets, thanks to the brilliant set up crew. Mark Corbett came out on top as high gun with 83 targets blown out of the sky. Sadly Bermagui went down to Cooma for the third year in a row by 52 points. The Coomagui cup has been going since 2002 and the rivalry has been fierce. Bermagui holds the record of 4 years in a row. But Cooma is catching up!

Tim Wilson and David Kautmannm also put in great scores in B and C grade and there was keen competition and good scores from the juniors and ladies.

      Sunday 27th. August 2017

Bermagui Field & Game hosted the inaugural Cheryl Brady Memorial 100tgt Handicap Challange on Sunday the 27th August, proudly sponsored by Nev & Shirl Brady of Bermagui Welding. The challenging but, entertaining course was set at nine stands of gruelling mountain goat walking tracks. The competitors were kept on their toes with a varied array of targets, of which included :- springing teal & a rabbit that played very hard to get and teased the shooters no end. The day was made even more difficult by the lovely icy winds & misty rain for the first two rounds, however it was good to see the shooters tough it out for a chance at the prizes. The set-up committee should be commended on the well balanced course.

Nathan Wu - High Gun of the day. Congratulations to Nathan Wu, [Left] who was awarded High Gun of the day with a score of 113, he was presented with the 2017 Cheryl Brady Memorial sash and walked away with an array of prizes and his name on the winners plaque. Zip Summerell piped his son at the post, Ray for 1st prize in the men’s B Grade. Juniors saw Josef Gschwend come 1st by outdoing his sister Holly who achieved second with Pat Thompson 3rd. Andrew Whitbread won the raffle to shoot the jackpot $500. Unfortunately he was left holding the meat tray from Benny’s Butchery of Cobargo after failing to hit the required amount of targets.

    Sunday 28th May 2017

Sunday 28th May started out crystal clear until a few showers rolled in during the afternoon. This wasn't enough to dampen the enthusiasm of local and travelling shooters from Illawarra, Canberra, Cooma and Moe and a good day was enjoyed by all. The event was 56 pairs of double targets from seven shooting stations that was set and sponsored by Barbie and Mario Magrin. A great range of prizes were on offer for those who could concentrate and handle the mostly falling targets; a really good effort from Barbie and Mario.

    Sunday January 8th 2017

The club's first shoot for 2017 was held on Sunday 8th at its Murrah River Road shooting range. Ten squads of shooters participated in the two competitions; a side by side event sponsored by Bruce Arthurson and an under and over event sponsored by Vikki and Warren Marshall. The eight shooting stations presented shooters with a good range of challenging targets with the highlight of the day being junior shooter from Cooma, Oscar Mower coming in with a possible 25 on his first round and solid scores in his remaining three rounds.

John Lehmann led the field to take out high gun in the side by side event and the ten winners on handicap were across all grades.

Bermagui’s Rainer Brandermier was the proud sponsor of the Bermagui Field & Games October clay target shoot. Shooters came from the Illawarra, Cooma, Batemans Bay and Victoria to partake in the 100 target event. Throughout the day the weather fluctuated between beautiful summer sunshine and cold wintery showers, and with a constant 30 knot wind made way for some very interesting targets.

Willie White and his set up crew did a great job setting up the range in some very trying conditions. Everybody enjoyed the day and spoke highly of the course.

      Sunday 27th September

Competition was keen on Sunday when the Cooma bus arrived with a team from Cooma Field and Game determined to take out the Annual Coomagui Cup. This is an annual event between the two clubs, held over two shoots. Cooma took a significant lead in the first leg at Cooma last weekend and they were prepared for tough competition on Bermagui’s home ground. Sponsor, Jim Drakos, presents Junior Winner, Jack Fairfield-Smith with his prize.

[left] Sponsor, Jim Drakos, presents Junior Winner, Jack Fairfield-Smith with his prize. Our sponsor and course setter, Jim Drakos, from Drakos Bros Construction and the 777 Supermarket and Deli, didn’t disappoint anyone with two layouts of challenging targets. However, despite a good performance from our A/AA shooters, Cooma won the day and the Cup! Well done all competitors and a big thank you to the Drakos family for their valuable support and sponsorship.

Thanks as well to Ken Buckley who volunteered to trap for the day when minor surgery prevented him from shooting. Thanks Ken!

Cooma’s luck continued with Sean Newlin winning the slab raffle, but unfortunately, James Byrne couldn’t continue the run when he shot for the $500 shoot raffle prize. He took home one of Benny’s great meat trays instead. Bermi’s luck changed at the end of the day with Dave Beddingfield taking out the Lucky shooter draw, but George Georgiou wasn’t present to pick up the lucky member prize.

      Sunday 26th July 2015

The July monthly shoot at Bermagui Field and Game's range was the annual Neil Rouse Memorial 75 target OTG event generously sponsored by Pat and Talia Jubb. As in previous years, relatives Michael and Helen Rouse from Tumut and Bruce and Mat Wilesmith from Temora attended to commemorate this well remembered foundation member of our club. Local shooters were joined by visitors from Mallacoota, Bombala and Cooma.

Sunday was also the second of the club's new shooter and novice training days and it was good to see four new shooters attend. The club is indebted to A Grade shooters Mark Gschwend and Gavin Moulding for giving up their days recreation in order to provide instruction to the new shooters. A special thanks also to Gary Martin who trapped for the competition; quite a commitment to shooting after having participated in his preferred skeet discipline in Cooma on the previous day. The stand out score on the day was achieved by Bruce Wilesmith in A Grade with 91 percent of targets shot and there were consistent scores across most grades including C Grade.

Rouse 2015_C Grade winners Willie White, Roger Budd and Michael Rouse with event sponsor Pat Jubb. Michael and Helen Rouse presented club persons from previous years with very attractive engraved glassware for their part promoting the club and perpetuating the legacy of Neil Rouse. Shirl Brady was the first club person to be recognised for her significant contribution to the club during 2011.

A count back was required in C Grade to determine the three place getters when four shooters came in with scores of 112. Other notable results were obtained in B Grade with Adam Shiels on 114.

The Bermagui Field and Game Club held the first of its new shooter training days at its grounds on Sunday 24th May in conjunction with its monthly competition shoot that was sponsored by Barbie and Mario Magrin. Seven new shooters attended and received instruction in a separate training area to the main competition. All were hitting the targets as the training progressed and seemed to be enjoying themselves, so much so that two have joined up as club members.

Mario and Barbie had set a really good course of 14 "novelty" pairs of targets over seven shooting stations for the main competition. Eight squads of shooters were competing for a magnificent array of prizes and visiting shooters attended from Cooma, Illawarra and Canberra. Sunday 26th April 2015

Passing showers were not enough to dampen the spirits of five squads of shooters who turned out for the club's April shoot. This shoot was generously sponsored by Rydge Marine and shooters were very appreciative of the support and sponsorship that Rydge Marine has provided to the club over many years.

The program of 100 targets was set up over two courses, each of seven shooting stands with a good mix of targets. In view of pending worsening weather, the complete program was shot before shooters sat down to enjoy the usual complementary lunch.
Gavin Moulding was once again high gun on the day, edging out Phil Craig by one target.

      • Training Day and Novelty Mario's Pairs sponsored by Barbie and Mario Magrin
      • Set up crew: Mario and Barbie Magrin, Nev Brady, Pat Tennant and Dave Moore.

There will be a different format for the club's next shoot when training will be provided for new and novice shooters during the morning of 24th May commencing at 10am. This training will be in very small groups with instruction by experienced shooters and the cost of $20 will include two boxes of cartridges and lunch. There will be at least a further two training mornings during 2015. The club has found it necessary to disrupt its normal shooting program to provide training, as its application for additional training days was rejected. It is unfortunate that while the two sports of moving target shooting and golf require similar personal discipline, shooters in the Bermagui area are denied similar opportunities that golfers enjoy in order to develop skills for their chosen sport. New and novice shooters wishing to undertake this training are encouraged to contact either Michelle Craig (0417 265 439) or Nev Brady (0418 168 207) as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made.

      Sunday 22nd March 2015

The clubs monthly shoot for March was a 100 target handicap event generously sponsored by Grumpy. Mark Gschwend and his setup crew had set two challenging courses with new and innovative targets that were enjoyed by most shooters. There was "a target for everyone" and this proved to be the case as most shooters scores were around their handicaps.

[Left] Mario Magrin presenting prizes to Rodger Budd, Graham Peterson and Col O'Brien.C grade winners - Grumpy shoot Chris Raabe shot particularly well to take out the high gun award although there were some very respectable OTG scores across all grades. 2015 Grumpy high gun winner Barry Dunn was very appreciative of the meat tray consolation prize that was very generously donated by Maddie and Rory from Bennys Butchery in Cobargo, after failing to shoot the required targets in the shoot raffle. The club farewelled Jan and Darren Redman who are heading north until November. Darren's father Don had been a much appreciated helper at the club over many years and it was very pleasing to see him visiting the club on Sunday. Bermagui Field and Game Club's February shoot was the 100 target OTG Springing Teal event sponsored by Gary Georgio of Safari Firearms which is located in Belmore. Gary has been sponsoring this event for a number of years and is also a very generous contributor to many of the other gun clubs in NSW. Visiting shooters attended from Illawarra, Canberra, Bombala and Cooma.

Darren and Jan Redman had set two courses of 25 target, each course with five stations and each station having a pair of springing teal targets. The high gun prize for the day was based on the highest score of the 40 springing teal targets.

Oscar Mower from Cooma was in fine form to take out the Juniors first prize over sisters Grace and Holly Gschwend who also shot well and usually dominate their grade.

The other stand out shooter in their grade was Brett Wills in C Grade. Phil Craig shot the highest score of the springing teal type targets to win high gun. Phil also won the shoot raffle, however he was unable to shoot the required eight targets to win the jackpot prize and had to settle for the meat tray that was very generously donated by Maddie and Rory from Bennys Butchery in Cobargo. A special thanks also to local skeet shooter Gary Martin who gave up his Sunday to trap on one of the springing teal stations.

        Sunday 25th January 2015

Bermagui Gun Club's monthly shoot was a 100 target handicap side-by-side event sponsored by Michelle and Philip Craig run in conjunction with an over and under event sponsored by Bruce Arthurson. Numbers were a little down on previous shoots however there was a good contingent of shooters from Cooma and others from Canberra.

Michelle and Philip had set a very interesting program with a good variety of targets over eight shooting stations in one layout. Scores were a little down on those expected from a handicap event and reinforces the club's aim of including training days in its program so that new and novice shooters can better handle the target variability that sporting clay targets present.

Prizes for the main side by side event were very generous meat trays prepared by Bennys Butchery with prizes going down to ninth place across all grades. Pat Jubb came out on top of the side by side event this year after knocking on the door in last year's event. Phil Craig presenting Pat Jubb with his champions sash

The over and under event was shot across A, B and C grades with the handicapping system favouring lower grades where John Gray from C grade posted the highest score. Gavin Moulding in A grade had a near perfect score of 24 in one round to come in with a lower overall handicap score. Mick Diss, Brett Wills and John Gray with sponsor Bruce Arthurson

Six squads of shooters attended Bermagui Field and Game Club's new year shoot on Sunday 4 January with visiting shooters and their families from Canberra, Temora, Melbourne and Illawarra. The shoot was generously sponsored by Bermagui Country Club.

Two ranges had been set up, each with five shooting stations. Scores were generally down across the board in all grades, however Gavin Moulding and Darren Redman in A Grade were able to demonstrate their prowess and came in with respectable scores.

        Christmas Shoot 23rd November 2014

There was a good rollup for Bermagui Field and Game Club's Christmas shoot held on Sunday 23 November with eleven squads of shooters and their families travelling from Canberra, Goulburn, Sydney, Bombala, Illawarra and the usual contingent from Cooma.

The shoot was conducted as two events; the first being two rounds of 37 targets shot over thirteen stations and the second event, the long awaited George Digweed Challenge. Mark, Chris and Jan Raabe with the help of Pat Tennant had spent most of the previous Friday and a lot of though into setting up the course for the first event. Most stations comprised multiple traps with single targets and report pairs to be shot by B, C and Ladies grades. There was a further impediment for A grade and AA grade shooters in that the single targets became report pairs and the report pairs became simultaneous pairs. All up, one of the best and most challenging courses that has been set at the range. Some very healthy shoot offs were needed to establish placegetters with Mark Gschwend edging out Gav Moulding in AA grade, Tony Crome over Mario Magrin in A grade and Ron Manly in B grade.

Nev Brady, Adam Shiels and Bruce Arthurson - George Digweed Challenge winners[Left] Nev Brady, Adam Shiels and Bruce Arthurson - George Digweed Challenge winners
The George Digweed Challenge event commenced with shooters amassed and taking their turn to shoot at a springing teal type target at distances increasing at five metre intervals from the trap. Bruce Arthurson was still hitting the targets at distances where most of the more highly graded shooters had dropped out and was the clear winner of C grade. Adam Shiels also hung in with a group of A/AA shooters until he and Nev Brady were the only shooters to be successful at the 50 metre mark. Both shooters balked on their first attempt at the 55 metre mark until Adam was successful on a subsequent attempt that will see his name engraved on a perpetual trophy. Not a bad effort when you consider that the target had travelled at least a further 10 metres horizontally from the trap. This was also a fund raising event and $330 was raised for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Presentations concluded with awards for the most successful and the runner-up club juniors for 2014. Mark and Jan Raabe make these awards each year and include sash and generous prizes. Grace Gschwend edged out her younger sister, Holly, (winner of last years award), to also take the sash for the top club junior for 2014.

        Sunday 26th October 2014

The October shoot at the Bermagui Field and Game range was a 100 target handicap sponsored by Rainer with the course set up by Willy White and his crew. The predicted light showers during the day did not eventuate and an enjoyable days shooting was had by all. The range comprised seven shooting stations with a good mix of targets that favoured the lower grades and made it hard for the top shooters to join the winning list. John Hosking from Quirindi and local shooters Mark Raabe and Phil Craig were the exceptions in A Grade. A Grade winners John Hosking, Mark Raabe and Phil Craig

The meat tray had to be raffled off this month as Gavin Moulding proceeded to pulverise the required eight targets and walked away with the $500 jackpot; quite a compensation for being so heavily handicapped in his grade.

        Sunday 28th September 2014

September's monthly shoot at Bermagui Field and Game's range was a 100tgt OTG event that was generously sponsored by Jim and Rhonda Drakos of Drakos Bros Construction and the 777 Supermarket and Deli. The event was also the second stage of the Coomagui Challenge between the Cooma and Bermagui clubs. The first stage of the Challenge was held at the Cooma range on the previous weekend when the Bermagui shooters had to retreat after conceding defeat to Cooma. Seeking to consolidate their victory, the Cooma club had consigned a bus load of enthusiastic shooters to Bermagui. Shooters also travelled from Bombala, Traralgon and Morwell.

The consistent shooters over the consecutive weekends were Gavin Moulding taking out high gun on both days, Bill Warriner winning A-AA Grade, Chris Robinson shooting well in B Grade, Robin Perkins winning Ladies and Jake Hedger; Jake having hedged out place-getters in A Grade last week and this week winning Juniors. The other stand out shooter on the day was Craig Field winning B Grade.

When the dust had settled and the scores tallied up, the Bermagui club had ended up with a higher aggregate score over the two shoots and so retain the cup for a further year. Shooters were very appreciative of the enthusiasm that the Cooma club demonstrated in supporting this shoot and perpetuating the healthy inter-club rivalry.

Phil Craig was winner of the shoot raffle, however it was a tough ask for him to be at his peak for the shoot-off after he (like Nev Brady and Jim Drakos) spent most of the day attending to running the shoot. Our thanks Gents for your efforts.

Cheryl Brady Memorial Shoot 24th August 2014

Another perfect weather day for Bermagui Field and Game's monthly shoot for August. The event was the 100 target handicap Cheryl Brady Memorial event sponsored by Nev and Shirl Brady of Bermagui Welding. There was a splendid range of prizes to be won in all grades with most winners coming in with scores slightly above their handicap, reflecting well on the degree of difficulty of the targets set and the integrity of the handicap system. Nev had set a course of six shooting stations with a good variation of trajectories and target combinations.Cheryl Brady memorial shoot overall winner, Zip Summerell
[Left] Overall winner, Zip Summerell. A number of count backs were required to determine placegetters with Zip Summerell from B Grade edging out Colin Nunn from C Grade for the overall handicap winner prize and also for determining the order of placing in Ladies. Congratulation to Zip Summerell for winning the sash and having his name added to the perpetual trophy for 2014.

Adam Mower was unable to convert his winning ticket in the club's monthly shoot raffle into the jackpot prize so the jackpot remains at $500 until the next shoot.

Looking ahead, the Committee has come up with a new event for the club's Christmas shoot to be held in November that will recognise both the achievements of world sporting clays champion George Digweed and also generate money for a significant charitable donation. It will be a novelty event that will test shooter skills at shooting a rising target at ever increasing distances, hopefully as successfully as George Digweed does.

The Committee is currently planning to donate all of the proceeds from this event to the Cancer Council but is open to suggestions if there are more deserving local or national recipients.

Monthly Shoot Sunday 27th July 2014
Shoot sponsored by Pat & Tasha Jubb

July's monthly shoot at the Bermagui Field and Game Club was the annual 75tgt Neil Rouse Memorial Shoot sponsored by Pat & Tasha Jubb. Pat had set an interesting course of ten shooting stations with four of those comprising one pair of double targets. There was a good attendance of local and visiting shooters from Albury Wodonga, Temora, Tumut and Bombala.

Scoring was OTG where the stand-out shooters on the day were Gavin Moulding in A Grade, Barbie Magrin and Robin Perkins in Ladies and Mark Wilesmith in Juniors.

Once again the Rouse and Wilesmith families were in attendance to acclaim past and present service to the club.

Monthly Shoot Sunday 22nd June 2014
Sponsored by Bermagui Bait and Tackle

It was shirt-sleave weather for the June shoot of the Bermagui Field and Game, despite it being winter and prophesies of rain from the club's resident sooth sayer. The day's program was a 100 handicap event sponsored by Scott and Lisa Bradley of Bermagui Bait and Tackle. Visiting shooters attended from Albury-Wodonga, Canberra, Bombala, Cooma and Batemans Bay.

The setup crew was organised by Mick Diss who with the principal help of Daryl Newman set a program that was enjoyed by all. Two separate courses, each with six shooting stands gave shooters a comprehensive variety of targets to enjoy.
The scoreboard reflected that it was a handicap event which favoured the lower graded shooters who have larger handicaps and as a result the top three scores were achieved by C Grade shooters who put in sound performances. B Grade shooters were not far behind.
All members are encouraged to attend the July monthly shoot as it will be followed by the club's AGM.

        Monthly Shoot - Mario's Pairs
        25th May 2014

As our usual Publicity Officer extraordinaire soaks up the balmy weather and sunshine in beautiful Peru, 40 local shooters and their families enjoyed the same beautiful weather at the Murrah River shooting range of the Bermagui Field & Game. The shoot was sponsored by long time club stalwarts Mario and Barbie Magrin, who as usual set up the course for the event which is called “Mario’s Pairs”.

This is a novelty shoot where there are no single targets to be shot at, rather, all targets are pairs which really tests the ability of shooters. The overall high gun for the day was Gav Moulding who once again showed why he is by far the best shooter at the club with a very creditable 99/112. Most of the other shooters present shot to their grade with the occasional “burgler” showing their true colours. Well shot Adam, or should that be “Ned”.

The ladies committee once again put on a magnificent spread for lunch which many of the visitors present commented on and really appreciated, thanks again girls.

Mark Raabe won the raffle which gave him the chance to shoot for $500 but just when he looked home and hosed to take the cash he tightened up around the neck area and dropped his last target which earned him a Bronx cheer from the gallery and the lovely consolation prize. Better luck next time Mark. Oyster trays went to Phil Body and Adam Mower.

Our June shoot will be sponsored by Scott and Lisa from Bermagui Bait & Tackle with some great prizes on offer, so make sure you get there.

        Monthly Shoot - Claybusters Challenge
        Sunday 27th. April 2014

The April club shoot at Bermagui Field and Game range was a 100 target event generously sponsored by Rydge Marine of Bermagui. Major prizes across all grades were very attractive engraved glassware and these were keenly sought by contestants. AA Grade Winners, Andrew Scott and Mark GschwendJuniors Winners, Jack Fairfield-Smith and Grace GschwendThe Easter break or recent soaking rains may have reduced numbers as there was a smaller field a shooters than usual despite perfect weather on the day. Visiting shooters attended from Mallacoota, Canberra, Cooma and Batemans Bay and the field contained new and novice shooters.[Left] AA Grade Winners, Andrew Scott and Mark Gschwend[Right] Juniors Winners, Jack Fairfield-Smith and Grace Gschwend

Gavin and Deb Moulding and their helpers had put a lot of time and effort into setting up two separate ranges. Each range comprised five shooting stands, each with five targets. Most stations were challenging with rapidly falling targets that catered for the more experienced shooters and this was generally reflected in scores. It was a baptism of fire for new and novice shooters.

There were some very creditable scores with Gavin Moulding winning High Gun, Mark Gschwend and Philip Craig winning AA Grade and A Grade respectively. Grace Gschwend shot very well to win Juniors ahead of Jack Fairfield-Smith.

        Monthly Shoot sponsored by Grumpy
        Sunday 27th. April 2014

The Bermagui Field and Game Club's shoot for March was a 100 target handicap event generously sponsored by club member Graham Peterson. Graham was unfortunately unable to participate, however Mark Gschwend and his band of willing helpers and after considerable effort had set two challenging courses for the day.high gun winner
[Left]  Tony Crome telling Nev Brady and shooters how he won High Gun The targets were very well presented with a number of new trajectories and with the targets mostly showing plenty of top face so they were highly visible to shooters. Complements from shooters abounded throughout the day.

Most place-getters shot above their handicap with Gavin Moulding in AA Grade, Tony Crome, Jim Drakos and Dick Brown in C Grade, Michelle Craig in Ladies and Holly Gschwend in Juniors standing out from the crowd. Gavin Moulding put in a very creditable score of 94 targets out of 100, including one possible round of 25 targets.

Members of the Club wish Craig and his wife Michelle best wishes for their new life in New Zealand.

        Monthly Shoot sponsored by

Safari Firearms Sunday 23rd February 2014

February's shoot was the Safari Firearms Springing Teal event generously sponsored by Garry Georgio of Safari Firearms which is located in the Sydney suburb of Bexley. As in previous years, the shoot layout was organised by Darren and Jan Redman who with their group of helpers put together two courses,Mario Magrin receiving his prize from Darren and Jan Redman each comprising five shooting stations. Each station included a pair of springing teal targets which made up 40 of the 100 target event. [ Left: Mario Magrin receiving his prize from Darren and Jan Redman] Darren had introduced some new target trajectories to the event which added to the enjoyment of those shooters familiar with them, however less experienced novice shooters struggled as coaching is not permitted during competition and emphasised the point that the club really needs to have training days so that its new and novice shooters can receive correct instruction and not be disadvantaged.

Most shooters shot to their grade and local shooter Marion Magrin further consolidated his position within A Grade by winning third place. Mario has been putting some consistent scores together and it looks as though he has left the "Burglar" grade behind forever.

Mario Magrin receiving his prize from Darren and Jan Redman Juniors Grace and Holly Gschwend also put in consistent scores and were shooting some of the more difficult targets that caused trouble for others, having heeded previous expert guidance from their father Mark, who took out first place in A Grade. Shoot offs were required to determine placegetters in A, B and C grades.

        Sunday January 26th. 2014

The first State selection shoot in 2014 of the NSW Field and Game Federation was held at the Bermagui range on Sunday 26th January and it benefited greatly from the continued generous sponsorship of the Bermagui Country Club. A field of 76 local and visiting shooters participated, travelling from Cooma, Mudgee, Geelong, Bega, Majura Park, Canberra International, Sydney, Ardlethan, Temora and a bus load from Dubbo.High Gun Mick Munro with State President Trevor Heise and Club President Nev Brady The setup crew had done a marvellous job of setting up the course of two ranges that challenged even the State's top shots and scores generally reflected the difficulty of some of the more distant downward target trajectories. Conditions were perfect for shooting and the shoot ran like clockwork, thanks to the efforts of club stalwarts Barbie and Mario Magrin, Michelle and Phil Craig, Shirl and Nev Brady and to club members John Hine, Pat Jubb, Daryll Newman and Bret Wills who all gave up their days shooting to trap on the day. This is quite an sacrifice from members of a club where shooting days are severely limited by the club's operating restrictions. Also a special thanks and commendation by local and visiting shooters to non-shooters Desi Farrell, Mick Cook and Nev Reid for giving up their Australia Day to trap for the clubDubbo Team members Steve Cooper, Peter Kay, Chris Everitt and Rodney Carr with Nev Brady

        January 5th. 2014 Shoot

The Bermagui Gun Club held another very successful shoot at its range on Sunday 5th January. Two events, a side-by-side event sponsored by Michelle and Philip Craig and an over and under event sponsored by Bruce Arthurson were run in conjunction over the course which was set up in two ranges. The ranges had been set by Michelle and Philip and helpers over a number of days leading up to the shoot and a lot of thought had gone into providing varied and challenging targets. Shooters generally agreed that the targets were some of the best ever presented at the range. Both events were scored on handicap and this helped some shooters share in the prizes which were very generous mixed meet trays for the side-by-side event and cartridges for the over and under event.

Some shooters joined the side-by-side ranks for the first time this year and surprised themselves and others with their performance. Mario Margrin took out the High Gun Prize with a borrowed gun, his first time with both a side-by-side and double triggers.

Mario Magrin receiving his High Gun prize from Michelle and Philip Craig The over and under event produced some good scores with A Grade shooters Adam Shiels and Mark Gschwend continuing to share the upper places and C Grade shooter Jonathan Whyte scoring well above his handicap.

        Aqua-1 Competition October 27th 2013

Willie White and his band of willing workers had set up an interesting course around the clubhouse for the 100 target handicap event sponsored by Sue and Willie White of Aqua One. The prizes were keenly contested by shooters and there were good numbers of Ladies and Junior shooters. Robin Perkins put in a sound performance to win Ladies division with a score well ahead of the others.
Ladies Winner Robin Perkins receiving her prize from Willie White and Nev BradyDavw Moore A grade winner Congratulations also to Dave Moore the winner of high gun on the day with his score well above his grading. Not in the winners circle after his stunning performance last weekend in winning B Grade at the Cooma shoot with a course equalling score was Mario Magrin. Never mind Mario, sometimes your hot, other times your not.
Another local shooter to put in a good performance last weekend was Phil Craig at the Federation nationals held at Rocky Gully in South Australia. Phil secured eighth place in super veterans with a score of 172/225 under cold and very windy conditions and with a number of the targets at legendary distances.

        Sunday 28th July 2013

The club's July event was the annual memorial shoot in honour of Neil Rouse, one of the highly regarded founding members of the club. Family members in the Wilesmith family from Temora and Rouse family from Tumut joined local and other visiting shooters in commemorating Neil's life and contribution to the club. View/download pictures
The shoot was proudly sponsored by Pat and Tasha Jubb. Pat and his setup crew had set a fairly challenging course that comprised a few unusual targets and resulted in most shooters having at least one round where their scores were below expectations. Some, like Gavin Moulding recovered quickly and put in good overall scores, others had trouble lifting. The Ladies division was again keenly contested and won by Bec Wilesmith.

It was hard for juniors to get a look in ahead of the Wilesmith brothers from Temora but local junior Jarred Ringlands managed to secure a placing.

There were two shoot offs for the shoot raffle; the first by Nev Brady as a result of rain setting during the previous month's shoot and from this month's raffle by James Price. Neville usually performs well in such shoot offs, however he missed one of his first pair of targets and may have been distracted by his many efforts in trying to secure the club's future with the local Council. James was also unsuccessful in his attempt to win the raffle money and the jackpot remains at $500.
The club AGM was held at completion of the shoot and all positions on the committee were filled

        Sunday 23rd June 2013

The June shoot held by the club was a 100 target handicap event, generously sponsored by Scott and Lisa Bradley of Bermagui Bait & Tackle and it was pleasing to have Scott and his children attending. Mick Diss had put a lot of time into setting up the range for the day and it comprised two separate courses that presented shooters with a wide variety of targets.
Rain was predicted and there was a hint of it before shooting started however it luckily held off until the last round and then came down with a vengeance, requiring a couple of placings to be determined by count-back rather than by the customary shoot-off.
The star of the days shooting was Holly Gschwend who shot in the Ladies division as there was no Juniors division. Holly has only been competing for a short time and came in with a score of 107, putting shooters on notice of what is to come.

        Sunday 24th March 2013

Congratulations to the Range Setters this month, Mark, Adam, James & Ron – there was a great mix of targets for all grades of shooters and the team made great use of our new expanded range – taking us into unknown territory. It was a pity that shooter numbers were down and, for the first time ever, there was a total absence of visitors. However, it was great to see two of our 4 newest members out there giving it there best.
A huge thank you to “Grumpy,” who so generously sponsored this shoot with cartridges – 7, 5 and 3 packets for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each grade over the 100 tgt hcp event. This type of sponsorship is a great promotion for our club and is helping to maintain its healthy growth. And speaking of generosity –how about Darren (AA) and Nev (A) who both so graciously missed one or two of the shoot raffle targets to leave the club with the $500 jackpot for next month! Bad luck about the extra cash for holidays - great club spirit guys! Nev topped off his careless day by missing a sim pair on the last station for his 25 badge.
We wish Darren and Jan all the best for their venture up North and hope it is successful for them.

        February Shoot Cancelled

Due to heavy rain and strong winds overnight, our February shoot, sponsored by Safari Firearms, was cancelled. We apologise to our sponsor, Gary, and to all who travelled to attend the shoot. Weather at this time of year is totally unpredictable. A big thank you to Jan & Darren who set what promised to be 2 great courses and then packed it all away again. Thank you also to those who helped set up and take down. Next month: 10am Sunday March 24th - 100tgts Hcp, sponsored by Grumpy. Set up crew: Mark & Grace Gschwend, Adam Shiels, James Price, Ron Manly & Jim Drakos. Darren will finally shoot for the $500 prior to the start of competition and tickets will be on sale after that for the March shoot raffle which may be $100 or still $500 - we will see!

        1st NSW State Selection

Sponsored by Bermagui Country Club and the Firearms and Safety Training Council of NSW.

        Bermagui Country Club Banner

Despite rain the night before and threatening weather all day, the first NSW State Selection, held at Bermagui on Sunday, was completed in fine weather. 66 competitors from around the State enjoyed the challenge of the 2 varied courses set by the Bermagui committee. Most, if not all, of the “top shots” managed to throw in a less than average round, which kept the scores down and the competition keen. The poorer scores were not confined to after lunch, so the great spread put on by the ladies could not be blamed! Many thanks to our sponsors, our trappers, our great cooks, our members who gave up their day of shooting and to all the travellers who made the day so successful.

        Sunday 6th January 2013

60 shooters – 16 with their trusty Side by sides and 44 others that couldn’t be parted from their faithful U/Os – turned out to a testing course set by Phil & Shelley Craig. It was one of those days with a major trap breakdown and another problem trap which made for longer than usual rounds and the 100 target event was finally completed very close to our restricted time of 5pm. Despite the problems, most competitors enjoyed the day with another great lunch and a cool breeze that kept us comfortable. Many thanks to Bruce Arthurson from Classic Race and Performance Engineering for sponsoring the U/O event in 3 grades and to Phil & Shelley Craig for providing the sash and prizes of meat trays to 10th position in the SxS handicap event. Bermagui Field and Game Sunday 25th November 2012

Our Christmas shoot this year saw 64 shooters, including 4 sub-juniors, 19 visitors and 4 people trying our sport for the first time, thoroughly enjoying themselves and doing their best to try and win a ham or turkey or something else for the Christmas table. Congratulations go to Chris Raabe for setting up the course today – this was Chris’s first time as range setter and he was asked to set lots of stations, be very mindful of safety and to make it a softer course. Chris achieved all of this and a couple of the targets were not quite as “soft” as they looked – so that kept the challenge in it for our better shooters.
A huge thank you again to “Santa” who very generously sponsors this shoot and enables the club to put on generous prizes as a thank you to all our members and visitors who support us so well during the year.
The annual championship sashes were also presented today and this year they included a sash and trophy for Junior Champion of the year, thanks to Mark and Jan Raabe who have instigated and sponsored this prize. 2012 Champions are:

        Sunday 28th November 2012

44 shooters from as far away as Quirindi enjoyed a short course with a great variety of targets from “easy” to challenging, set by Willy White and his crew. We had a couple of hiccups with traps, but the beautiful sunny day made sitting around for while most relaxing. Our sponsors, Sue and Willy White from Aqua One, were most generous with their prizes and it was great to see so many juniors present and all shooting well. Today was also the final round of the Club Championships and the final results will be announced and sashes awarded at our Christmas shoot in November. Look forward to seeing you all there. Drakos Bros and 777 Challenge

Once again Jim Drakos and his crew set an interesting course with a good mix of targets. It was great to see the young juniors shooting so well. 48 shooters enjoyed the day which included, as usual, a great bbq lunch which featured venison this month.
Many thanks to Jim and Rhonda Drakos who so generously sponsor this annual event. Don’t forget to support them through the 777 Supermarket & Deli and through Drakos Bros Construction.

After trailing at the conclusion of the first round in Cooma, Bermagui came up to be clear winners today, winning over the 2 rounds by 43 points.
Lucky shooter: Mark Raabe 4pkts; Lucky member: Mark Raabe 4 pkts.
Shoot Raffle: John Gray’s name came out of the draw to shoot for the $500, but unfortunately for John the targets were a little elusive and John took home a bottle of whiskey. The jackpot remains at $500 for our next shoot at 10am October 28th. This shoot is sponsored by club enthusiasts, Willy and Sue White from Aqua One. The 100tgt hcp event will also be the 4th and final round of the Club Championships.

      Cheryl Brady Memorial

August 26th's program was the “Cheryl Brady Memorial” 100 target handicap shoot that was sponsored by Nev and Shirl Brady of Bermagui Welding. The shoot was held in almost perfect weather with a good attendance of local and shooters from Bega, Bombala, Cooma and Goulburn vying for an impressive collection of sashes and trophies.
While the course set by club president Nev didn’t look too difficult (at a quick glance), it proved challenging and there weren’t any high scores posted during the day. The event was set over nine shooting stations with a good variety of targets. Most shooters had trouble with one or more stations and this lead to some soul-searching. Those with the best concentration ended up in the winners circle.
The evenness in scores between the grades is an indication of just how well the handicapping system is working.
      Today’s results are:

      Neil Rouse Memorial Shoot
Sponsored by Patrick and Tatia Jubb
      Sunday 22nd. July 2012

Shooters travelled from Tumut, Temora, Cooma, & Bombala to enjoy the 75 target Neil (Rooster) Rouse Memorial Shoot. It was great to see Mick & Helen Rouse, as well as Neil's 'adopted' family, the Wilesmiths, able to participate in this annual event. Patrick and Tatia Jubb were once again very generous in their sponsorship and Pat set a challenging course of mostly close and speedy targets – much to the liking of some, but to the despair of others. Many thanks to the set up crew and to all those who helped make the day a great success. At the conclusion of Presentation Mick & Helen Rouse announced the winner of the Annual Neil Rouse Memorial Club Person of the Year trophy. This year it went to Michelle Craig, who was described as a dedicated worker and a "travelling ambassador" for the club. Michelle (Shelley) also promotes the club through the Club website, has held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer over a number of years and when not too harassed can even put on a friendly smile in the office. Today's results are:

The 100tgt hcp event will also be the 3rd round of the Club Championship. Set up crew: Nev Brady, Daryl Newman, James Price, Barry Dunn, Craig Field & Dave Scott

      Bermagui Bait & Tackle
      2nd round of club championships
      100 target handicap Results June 24th 2012

Brilliant sunny weather greeted the shooters who arrived to contest the 2012 Bermagui Bait & Tackle Handicap Event, generously sponsored by Scott & Lisa Bradley. Everyone was hopeful of not only taking home one of the great vouchers on offer, but also of adding some valuable points to their tally for the Club Championships.
Phil Craig did just that with a great 25/25 in his 3rd round, followed by 24/25 in his last round – so close to 50/50, but not quite! Everyone enjoyed the course set by Mick Diss – Mick took good advantage of the new areas that have been opened up since the purchase of our land and devised some different and challenging targets.
Our new generator and fridge have also been installed and ran beautifully first up. Many thanks to Craig Sanderson whose eye for a bargain and electrical skills snared these two bits of equipment for us.

Mario's pairs 104 target novelty event

      Sunday may 27th 2012

Once again, the concept of shooting with a randomly drawn partner (in your grade) at a series of targets where you have the opportunity to shoot your partner's targets, proved popular. The generosity of sponsors, Mario & Barbie Magrin was overwhelming with two thirds of the shooters taking home a great prize.
The aim of the day was to enjoy yourself and not take the shooting too seriously as there can be a few difficulties with counting targets when 2 people are shooting simultaneously, and more so when a pair gets 16 continuous targets. Our visitors from Bombala and Canberra enjoyed the day and it was great to see 4 juniors competing.
As always, the free bbq fish, sausage, rissole & salad lunch went down well. A big thank you to all the ladies who supply the salads and cakes each month and a special thanks to our bbq girl, Shirl, who has also been helping out in the office whenever we are short & taking photos for our website.
Lastly, another huge thank you to Muz & Barbie for a great course and a great day...Winners today were:

      Rydge Marine claybusters 100 challenge

      April 22nd 2012

After a week of wet weather the sun shone on the 36 shooters who came along tackle the great course designed & set up by Gav & Deb Moulding and team. The targets were not quite as tough (thankfully) as last year's, but there were still plenty of challenges. Numbers were down again this month, particularly amongst the higher grades, which surprises us. Bermagui still offers great shooting, good prizes and with your lunch, etc. included in noms, by far the best value of any club. Could all members please take careful note of when they are on set up. It is only a couple of times a year and your absence makes hard work for the rest of the team. Set up rosters appear at the bottom of the monthly results, on the website club program and on the hard copy that each member has. Many thanks again to our sponsor, Rydge Marine.
