VALE - Neil George Rouse - 13 August 1933 - 30 June 2009
Neil, "Rooster" or "Rousy" to his mates, was born in Victoria and had a long association with the Gippsland region, working, coaching junior football, fishing & shooting there for most of his adult life.
Rooster joined the Traralgon Field & Game Club in the early 1970's where funds were raised by the club to help send him to the World Surf Casting Championships in England in 1973 after becoming the Australian Champion in 1970-71.  In 1975 he joined Morwell Gun Club where he was instrumental in establishing an inter-industry shoot (APM vs SEC) which brought new people into the sport.
In 1989 Neil moved to Bermagui where he established himself as a very proficient fisherman and shooter in the district.  He served on the original Seaside Fair Committee and was a part of a group of five who went about the very difficult task of establishing a Field & Game club in Bermagui.  The club has gone forward over the years due in no small part to Rooster, who was the first Secretary and was tireless in his work for the club over the 13 years of its existence, culminating in him being rewarded with the highest honour a club can give - Life Membership.
Neil was also very active in the Coast Guard at Bermagui where he saw many improvements and acquisitions for the group and participated in many rescues.  Other interests included golf and the Probus club.  Neil also enjoyed duck shooting and the study of duck breeding habits, particularly the Pacific Black Duck & Chestnut Teal, which he coaxed back to Wallaga Lake with his homemade nesting boxes strategically placed around the lake.
He is sadly missed by all the members of Bermagui Field & Game
